When you are just starting to make money on the web, you may be bombarded with conflicting information. There are sites out there like One Week Marketing which will teach you how to make money on the web using all free sites. Then there are other sites which will tell you to build niche sites selling just a specific product. So, which route is the right way to go?
I’m going to be honest with you, you’re not going to like my answer because I do not have a specific answer for you. All in all, the answer is that you need to decide for yourself depending on what your situation is.
If you are just starting out, whether you have money or not, you should start with learning the ropes on free sites like Squidoo, Hubpages and Blogger. This will allow you to learn about HTML, how keywords work, CSS, and other things that go into building a web property. You will also be able to get over the hump of getting started in web publishing.
If you decide you like publishing online and have a little bit of money to spare, I would start building your own web properties as soon as possible. These properties will allow you to build passive income, you’ll have assets you can sell in the future if you need to, and you will not be held hostage by new rules that the free sites impose.
If you do not have a lot of money to spare, then keep building your free sites until you build up enough money to by a domain and some hosting. Learn as much about keywords and writing as you can for free; stay off of as many mailing lists as you can so you are not tempted to spend money you don’t have. If I want to take advantage of freebies, I’ll sign up for the list, get what I can from them, and then unsubscribe.
I guess the answer to my question really is, “It depends.” Just always remember, that in affiliate marketing there are 100′s of ways to skin a cat and make money online. Don’t get frustrated and just keep publishing and pushing forward.
